125cc Standard Test (A2 or Restricted Licence)
On completing your CBT and Theory you are now ready to progress onto 125 Training
This course is on one of our 125cc motorcycles.
Once you pass your test this allows you to ride any size bike provided it is limited to 33bhp for two years. After the two years have elapsed you can ride any power machine without taking a further test (or even sending your licence off!).
If you are under 21 this is the only full course open to you.
You could pass your test on the same bike you used for your CBT, then get a ‘big bike’ (e.g. a 600cc machine) and have it restricted to 33bhp at an approved garage. (The cost varies depending on the bike). Some manufacturers are now offering restrictor kits free of charge on certain models. Ride the bike for two years and then have the restrictor removed, having got used to the weight and handling of it in the meantime.
A restricted bike looks and sounds the same as an unrestricted one, and, depending on the machine, the restriction may make little difference to its everyday performance. And don’t forget, having a restricted bike may save you money on your insurance.
